Here’s a quick update on the house I posted last week…Notice the roof, stone, and paint have all been done since the last picture (which I re-posted for comparison).

It was a tough choice for the exterior because in the range of color my client wanted to be in, no matter what we did (dark or light), it was going to be too close to one of the neighbor’s house colors.

Too light, it would look like the houses on the left and right. Too dark, it would look like the house across the street. Not exactly, but way too close!

The way I solved it is a little trick: I specified a different color for the garage! If you look closely, you can see it (I bet you didn’t notice till I pointed it out). Now the light paint faces the dark houses, and the darker garage is next to a lighter neighbor’s house.

The color looks great. Doesn’t really matter why. -Kathy

Welcome!

This blog is my notebook of design-related inspiration. At work I decorate residential homes and commercial buildings. I also consult on remodels, renovations, and all sorts of other surprisingly creative endeavors.

Sometimes (if I've got decent photos), my own projects are unveiled here first, before being added to the projects on my website.
